Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has accepted an invitation from Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to visit Pakistan, following a phone call between the two leaders.
According to a post on the Azerbaijani president’s official X account, Aliyev and Sharif reaffirmed what both sides describe as brotherly and strategic ties between Azerbaijan and Pakistan. They also welcomed the continued expansion of cooperation in energy, trade and people-to-people contacts.
The conversation also touched on the upcoming World Urban Forum in Baku. Sharif emphasized the importance of the event and Azerbaijan’s role as host in advancing the global urban agenda. Aliyev thanked Pakistan for its attention to the forum and described it as a major international platform for urban development issues.

Sharif said he would not be able to attend the forum because of pressing commitments, but added that Pakistan would be properly represented at the event.
The two leaders also exchanged views on regional developments, with a particular focus on the Middle East. Aliyev praised Pakistan’s active mediation role, including what he described as successful efforts to help secure a ceasefire between the parties and reduce tensions.
The leaders agreed to remain in close contact. Sharif extended an invitation for Aliyev to visit Pakistan, which the Azerbaijani president accepted with appreciation.
