Azerbaijan has sent a diplomatic note to Russia following a drone strike on a SOCAR filling station in Ukraine’s Mykolaiv region.

Russian Ambassador to Azerbaijan Mikhail Yevdokimov was summoned to the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry, where Baku expressed a strong protest over the attack, which took place on the evening of July 5.

The ministry said this was not the first time SOCAR-owned facilities in Ukraine had been damaged during Russian military operations. Previous incidents included strikes on a gas distribution compressor station and an oil depot in Odesa, causing significant material damage and injuries among company employees.

Azerbaijan said the continuation of such attacks, despite repeated warnings, could indicate that SOCAR facilities were being targeted deliberately.

The ministry also raised previous airstrikes that damaged the Azerbaijani Embassy in Kyiv and the country’s honorary consulate in Kharkiv.

Baku called on Russia to conduct a comprehensive investigation into all the incidents, provide an official explanation and comply with its international obligations to protect civilian facilities, diplomatic missions and consular buildings.

According to Azerbaijani officials, Russian forces used unmanned aerial vehicles to strike the SOCAR filling station in the Mykolaiv region on July 5.
