One resident of Azerbaijan spent an average of 496.9 manats per month in retail stores in January-May 2026, according to the State Statistics Committee.
The figure includes 275.7 manats spent on food products, beverages and tobacco, and 221.2 manats spent on non-food goods.
Overall, Azerbaijan’s retail trade turnover reached 25.51 billion manats in the first five months of 2026. Of that amount, 14.15 billion manats came from sales of food products, beverages and tobacco, while 11.36 billion manats came from non-food goods.
Compared with January-May 2025, retail trade turnover increased by 3.8 percent in real terms. Sales of food products, beverages and tobacco rose by 1.5 percent, while sales of non-food goods grew by 6.7 percent.
Food remained the biggest spending category. In January-May, 50.9 percent of consumer spending in retail trade went to food products. Another 4.6 percent was spent on beverages and tobacco.
Textiles, clothing and footwear accounted for 12.8 percent of retail spending, while automobile fuel made up 6.4 percent.
Electrical goods and furniture accounted for 4.4 percent of spending, while pharmaceutical products and medical supplies made up 2.9 percent. Computers, telecommunications equipment and printed products accounted for 1.5 percent.
The remaining 16.5 percent was spent on other non-food goods.
The figures show that although non-food sales are growing faster, everyday basic purchases still dominate consumer spending in Azerbaijan. More than half of the average monthly retail spending by one resident goes to food-related goods.
